... Trailer Analysis...x

A Rappers Ambition
There are many different features of the trailer that makes it a successful trailer.
Firstly the sound of the trailer attracts the audience in even more closer than they already are, there is a use of Diegetic and
non- Diegetic sound. The use of both of these sounds in the trailer is very successful, as by the audience listening to the diegetic sound it helps them to understand more clearly what is going on in the trailer. Also the dialogue language used in the trailer is referred to as slang, for example: “you think you’re bad yeah… Show me what you got”

This is the type of language used in the trailer, this shows that as young people who are watching the trailer also talk like this and this makes the trailer successful as the audience can refer to the trailer themselves and understand it.
In addition the use of the non- diegetic sound also makes the audience understand the trailer, as the type of music playing in the background of the trailer is referred to as “grime”.
This enthrals the audience and makes them enjoy the trailer and feel as if they are actually apart of the trailer.

Moreover the title of the trailer makes it successful as well.
“A Rappers Ambition” is eye catching to the audience as the target audience are mostly young boys who want to also be successful in the rapping business.
The use of the word “Ambition” shows that rappers want to be judged positively instead of being challenged with a typical stereotype of Rap.

Moreover a use of different camera shots were used throughout the trailer which shows a massive effect on the audience as it will keep them more focused on the trailer.
There are different camera shots used throughout this trailer for example close up shots are used to show the emotions’ of the characters. Also a number of props like when a gun is show, which represents an importance of the issue and what the trailer wants to put across young peoples thoughts. Medium shots are used when there are fights to show emotions of both characters, and long shots are used to show different locations for example when the city is shown a long shot angle is used.
Another reason that the trailer is successful is because of the mise-en-scene.
Firstly the Lighting of the trailer comes to the audience’s attention. The lighting in the trailer varies depending on which character is in the shot and where they are, for example when they are outside during the day its light, however when they are in a “gang” and holding “guns” the lighting is very dark and dim, which indicates something bad is going to happen all the emotion of the character is negative.. Although throughout the whole of the trailer the lighting is very dark which shows a use of low and high key lighting.
Another reason is the setting.
The setting of the trailer was set in the deprived areas of west London. A reason for setting the trailer in this area is because west London is generally where most crime happens and by setting the trailer in west London it is again represented to their target audience. Also there were sum shots in the trailer where it was set in the back of alley ways; this is where most young people hang around.
Finally I think that the actors made the trailer very successful overall.
The actors shown throughout the trailer are teenagers who are on streets but want to achieve something in life. This automatically shows who the target audience should b aimed at, by having teenagers in this trailer promote to the audience that its target audience will be teenagers. The actors perform very well throughout the trailer and protray an image of how youths are in today’s societies and also shows the struggles they face to make their ambitions come true.

1) You used a range of media language; for example you talked about the use of diagetic/non-diagetic sound and high/low key lighting.

2) You talked about a number of shots used which would keep the audience focused on the trailer.

3) You highlighted the key points .i.e. the media language

EBI:-

1) If you included a concept flow; how the different aspects of media language are able to be linked together and check your spelling.
